Ever since Archdeacon Robert Johnson inspired his contemporaries in 1584 to support him in realising his ambition to build 'as many free schools in Rutland as there were market towns', Oakham school has been on a continuous journey of development, of which fundraising is an essential part. It is thanks to Archdeacon Robert Johnson's foresight, generosity and determination that Oakham School was founded and it is only fitting that our Legacy Society should bear his name.
"Contribution and connection have always been and continue to be integral to Oakham School's ethos and values. Keeping education accessible to a wide range of pupils has been at the heart of our purpose since Archdeacon Robert Johnson founded the School in 1584. By leaving a legacy, you will help secure the School's future and increase opportunities for pupils now and in the future.
Thank you for your generosity."
Henry Price, Headmaster
All legacy gifts to Oakham School or the Oakham School Foundation unless otherwise specified, are invested in the expendable endowment of the Oakham School Foundation for Oakham School.
A legacy gift is the perfect way to recognise the part Oakham has played in your life. Legacies of all sizes are an essential element in securing the future of Oakham School. Whether your legacy supports a capital project, bursary or scholarship, the impact it will have on future Oakhamanians is immeasurable
All Legacy pledgers and donors to Oakham School and the Oakham School Foundation become members of the Archdeacon Johnson Legacy Society and will be invited to annual events.
We understand that you will want to ensure that your family and loved ones are looked after first and foremost, but it is simple to add Oakham School as an additional beneficiary. We suggest that you consider giving a percentage of your estate, rather than a specific amount so that the value of your gift will not be diminished by inflation. Even 1% of your estate can be a significant gift.
There may be significant tax advantages if you are a UK tax payer, but we do recommend that you consult a solicitor before you make your decision. You may find that a Letter of Wishes can be helpful as a temporary step until you next make changes to your Will. Although it is not legally binding, your executors should be able to fulfill your wishes.
