Summer Term Round up

School News from the Summer Term 2022

As always, the last term of the year goes by in a flash, and it was particularly exciting to welcome the return of a full Summer Term schedule for the first time since 2019. Middle and Upper School Sports Day saw Boys and Girls houses twinned for the first time, with mixed relays also taking place to celebrate 50 years of Co-Education. It was a lovely day, with the pupils creating a wonderfully supportive atmosphere. Wharflands were the boys victors, Hambleton the girls, and for the first time ever, Clipsham and Stevens won the joint trophy.

We celebrated our first in person Speech Day since 2019 at the end of May. The First XI v Old Oakhamians Cricket match kicked off the day's celebrations - the OOs ran out victorious in a closely fought match that went down to the final ball. School Colours were awarded before lunch, followed by the much-loved House picnics before the main prizegiving in the marquee.

The last week of term is one of the busiest weeks of the year, and after a two-year hiatus we had the return of Big Band under the big tent. A night of incredible musicians, singing and performing to a tent full of parents, staff and Form 6 and 7 pupils.

The penultimate day of the year also held the first ever co-ed Leavers Cricket match versus a mixed staff team. Freddie Fairey, the boys First XI captain, led the Leavers and Wes Durston the staff, as the staff ran out victorious, chasing down the 108 put on the board by the Leavers with a couple overs to spare. The match was played with great spirit and joyfulness, and was a lovely way to finish off their cricket careers at Oakham.

On the final day of Term, Form 7 celebrated their Leavers’ Service, their last in the Chapel as pupils of Oakham School, after which they walked out the Chapel doors as OOs. Afternoon Tea followed on Round House lawn where they were able to collect their leavers books and presents. The day ended with the Leavers Ball — a delightful evening, full of dancing, wonderful food, a fireworks show and a band performing. A perfect end to their time at Oakham.

We wish the 2022 Leavers the best of luck in their lives beyond Oakham School and warmly welcome them to the OO Club. You are always welcome back and we look forward to seeing you at an OO event soon.

Below is a gallery of the events of the last term: Sports Day, Speech Day, Big Band Concert, Leavers Service and finally the Leavers Ball.
