We are delighted and honoured to learn that Oakham School has been shortlisted for ‘Best Public School’ in the Tatler Schools Awards 2025. Being nominated for this category, out of the best independent schools in the UK, is a true mark of distinction and endorsement of the dedication and support of our community.

"Pastoral care is a key strength of the school, but so, too, is its authentically holistic approach to education"

As the Tatler Schools Guide says, the process of producing the guide is a rigorous process: “the team have travelled the country, touring the nation’s finest prep and public schools; interviewing pupils, teachers, and parents; and combing through the nearly 2,500 answers to their questionnaires”. Only 300 institutions are chosen to feature in the Tatler Schools Guide and Oakham is delighted to have been included each year.

In this year’s review the Tatler Schools Guide team picked out for particular praise our welcoming and inclusive community. “Pastoral care is a key strength of the school, but so, too, is its authentically holistic approach to education.” “There’s a distinctly warm and welcoming atmosphere” and “Parents are particularly grateful to the ‘amazing’ housemasters and mistresses who go ‘above and beyond’ to help children settle in and feel like part of the family”.

After receiving such a fabulous review, it is a huge accolade for Oakham School to then be nominated for a Tatler Schools Guide Award – given how highly regarded the guide is across the UK and, indeed, the world. Oakham is delighted to be one of just five schools to be nominated for the ‘Best Public School in the Land’ Award and the only one in the East Midlands region.

“This nomination is a reflection of Oakham’s commitment to holistic education via our innovative Connected Curriculum and the feeling of warmth towards the School,” says Henry Price, Headmaster. “It is particularly pleasing to read the positive views of our parents and pupils cited in the review.”

“With pupils joining us from the local area, further afield in the UK and from overseas, we pride ourselves on providing an outstanding boarding and day environment where pupils and adults belong, grow and flourish together.”

"There’s a distinctly warm and welcoming atmosphere"
