Old School
Our iconic Old School (known to many as The Shakespeare Centre) is poised to become a platform for performing arts, following a sensitive, yet ambitious refurbishment. Blending historic preservation with state-of-the-art upgrades, the revitalised space promises to deliver an inspiring environment for creativity, performance and inclusive education. Our vision is to transform the original School building into a flexible, fully accessible, and acoustically excellent performance venue without compromising its character. Even the smallest details are being handled with care: original frescoes have been protected, ensuring historical integrity is preserved for future generations.
This much loved and important building was once the classroom to two well-respected and inspirational teachers; Rod Smith and Dermot Gilvary and we are delighted that this refurbishment will be dedicated to their memories and there will be a plaque within Old School to mark the incredible impact and positivity they had on so many pupils. Their influence continued through David Smith and, today, through our Director of Drama Gilly Norrell.
This is a unique opportunity to become part of Oakham School’s history and indeed our vibrant future.
Be part of the future of Old School, by dedicating a seat in our beautifully refurbished historic building. Your support will help create a vibrant home for performance, music making, creativity and community for generations to come.
Dedicate a Seat in Old School
Support the future of the performing arts by dedicating a seat in the newly restored theatre:
£250 – Your name will be recorded on the donor board, permanently displayed within the theatre. This collective tribute will recognise the generosity of those who have helped bring this important space to life.
Make It Personal
£500 – A seat within the newly installed retractable seating will bear a discreet, engraved plaque with your dedication. Whether marking a family name, celebrating your child’s journey, or commemorating a special memory, this provides a deeply personal and enduring connection to the space.
In memory, in celebration, or simply because you believe in the power of live performance, your name will be part of Old School’s story.
