Old School
Our iconic Old School (known to many as The Shakespeare Centre) is poised to become a platform for performing arts, following a sensitive, yet ambitious refurbishment. Blending historic preservation with state-of-the-art upgrades, the revitalised space promises to deliver an inspiring environment for creativity, performance and inclusive education. Our vision is to transform the original School building into a flexible, fully accessible, and acoustically excellent performance venue without compromising its character. Even the smallest details are being handled with care: original frescoes have been protected, ensuring historical integrity is preserved for future generations.
This much loved and important building was once the classroom to two well-respected and inspirational teachers; Rod Smith and Dermot Gilvary and we are delighted that this refurbishment will be dedicated to their memories and there will be a plaque within Old School to mark the incredible impact and positivity they had on so many pupils.
This is a unique opportunity to become part of Oakham School’s history and indeed our vibrant future.
