At the start of the Spring Term, Old Oakhamians Harry and Dan came back to Oakham to deliver a lecture to current A-level, IB and GCSE Design and Technology pupils.

Dan Timmerman (’17), who attended Loughborough University to study product design engineering, is the founder of Grounded Sensors, a company developing sensors to allow informed farming by using real-time soil health data. The goal is to make farming easier and more efficient.

Dan was joined by Harry Smith (’16), an engineer and entrepreneur who has made a climbing robot and is currently working on a wave power device and helping develop next-generation off-shore renewable technology.

Both Dan and Harry gave an inspiring talk about their lives after Oakham School, what engineering involves, and how to make the most of the skills you learn while also giving advice on those who would like to pursue a career in Design and Technology.

Thank you to both Dan and Harry for coming back to Oakham. If any other OO would be interested in supporting our current Oakhamians, then we would love to hear from you. OOClub@oakham.rutland.sch.uk
