Academic and All-Rounder Scholars enjoyed a fine meal and conversation with fellow scholars and staff at their annual dinners; an opportunity to celebrate learning and leadership at Oakham School.

The All-Rounder Scholars Dinner began with Caroline Simpson, Head of the All-Rounder Scholars, welcoming the scholars, senior staff members, and OO Will Guy (’16), who was the guest speaker for the evening.

It was a pleasure to welcome back Will Guy (’16), a former Head of School and one of the first All-Rounder Scholars. Will gave an excellent speech that revolved around his time at Oakham, life just after Oakham, the challenges he has faced since leaving School, and how being an All-Rounder Scholar at Oakham has supported him throughout.

The evening ended with the Form 7 Scholars discussing their time at Oakham and how the scholarship has supported them in their achievements while also giving advice to the younger years. Mrs Simpson thanked the Form 7 Scholars for their all-around contribution to the life of the School in general and to the Scholars Society in particular, not least their current responsibilities as mentors to younger Scholars. While also thanking Will Guy for coming back to Oakham and giving such an inspirational talk to our current scholars.

Caroline Simpson said: “The All Rounder Scholars are some of busiest children in the School, so our annual dinner is a lovely opportunity to gather together as a full group and reflect on what has been achieved over the year.

“This year we said goodbye to Fergus, Wilfie, Flo and Josie who between them have been on the Decem, led the CCF Contingent and army sections, represented GB at cyclocross, played first team rugby and hockey, swum in the Olympic Pool, played in the Big Band and Concert Band, as well as supporting each other and the rest of the All-Rounders.

“We were also lucky to hear from OO and former All-Rounder Will Guy who reminded the All Rounders that the soft skills they have of curiosity, adaptability and self-reflection can and will take them on many exciting adventures in the years to come.”
