I recently had the great pleasure in returning to Oakham to present Charlotte Woodward with John Molesworth DSO DFC AFC (’31), my father, his Cricket Blazer for the School collection.
My father was from a long line of Cricketers and doctors. His Grandfather AB Norman, who lived in what is now Chapel Close, was the School’s doctor from 1875-1925. He had a cricket team that played the School regularly in the 1890s.
All three of his boys were at the School, and their photographs are in BAF Smith Pavilion. Their sister (my father's mother), Mary Molesworth (nee Norman), also played Cricket, scoring a half-century at Trent Bridge during the First World War.
I was naturally expected to follow, particularly as a left-hander, but shooting was my particular thing. I was the proud Captain for the winning Ashburton team in 1975.
