OOs in the Finance Profession come together for an evening of Networking

Finance Network

On Wednesday 13 November, we continued our professional networking series and held our second financial networking evening at the offices of Simmons & Simmons, London.

The evening kicked off with stimulating discussions about the compelling connections within banking, investment, insurance, and private equity.

Charlotte Woodward, Alumni and Development Officer, welcomed everyone, gave a brief update on Oakham School, and thanked Angus for hosting us in Simmons & Simmons before introducing our incredible keynote speaker, Fahad Kamal, Chief Investment Officer at Coutts.

Fahad Kamal, introduced by Edward Heckels (’84) as one of the most important people in private banking, spoke about his journey to becoming Chief Investment Officer and what it entailed. Leaving school in 1999 from Pakistan, Fahad went on to George Washington University in the US before undertaking various roles in the financial and government sector. Describing his 20s as unstructured, he advised taking risks, absorbing and learning as much as possible, and making the most of every opportunity thrown your way. Moving to London to undertake the MBA, Fahad found what he said ‘felt right’ and ‘luck and circumstance’ led him to where he is today.

The keynote ended with Fahad discussing current financial climates, the influence of geopolitics, the difference between UK and US markets, and how this all interacts with his role at Coutts. The floor opened up to the attendees, who had the opportunity to ask Fahad questions.

It was a wonderful opportunity for OOs from 2023 to 1984 to meet one another, exchange views, and enjoy a drink and some food in the center of London.

We are continuing to work on our professional networking events, which are made possible by the support and generosity of OOs who host or offer to be our keynote speakers. If you know of anyone or could support yourself then please do get in touch.
