Class of 1974 celebrates 50 Years Since leaving Oakham School

It was a pleasure to welcome back the Class of 1974 to Oakham School on Saturday 22 February, to celebrate 50 Years since they left Oakham School.

Fifty OOs returned to the Barraclough Dining Hall, having the chance to catch up, while looking through old red books and photos. Once everyone arrived, David Mensley, who made the day possible, thanked everyone for coming back and his co-organisers, Ian Pike and Patrick Harborow. There was also a moment of silence to remember all those who are sadly no longer with us.

Food was served, and everyone was delighted to learn that the food was one of the many things that had changed over the years, they were very grateful to the Barraclough staff for making the lunch so enjoyable.

Post-lunch the 1974 leavers had the opportunity to see how much the school site has changed since they left 50 years ago. Starting at the Barraclough Dining Hall (which did not exist 50 Years ago!), the groups made their way around the school site, learning all about the changes over the years and what Oakham School is like today. After many were present for the first girls starting Oakham in 1971, they were delighted to hear that Oakham is still co-educational throughout and maintains a 50/50 ratio of boys and girls.

The tour ended back in the Barraclough, where everyone enjoyed tea and cake while looking through the 'Class of 1974 Reunion Booklet' that was put together for the occasion.

Thank you to everyone who made the day possible. It was a pleasure to meet you all! The evening would not have been possible without David, Ian, and Patrick's support and work. The OO Club and the Class of 1974 are so grateful for all of their work.
