Alumni Share Invaluable Career Experience with Pupils

The Old Oakhamian (OO) Club recently welcomed ten alumni and one parent back to campus for Upper School Networking Evening, during which they shared knowledge, expertise and career experience to 50 pupils.

The attending alumni consisted of OO’s from the law profession, medical profession, marketing, psychology, business and human factors giving current Upper School pupils a wide range of areas in which they were able to expand their knowledge.

The evening began with pre-dinner drinks, and the Headmaster thanked the OOs for coming back and sharing their advice and wisdom. He also congratulated the pupils on taking a leap and attending an event of this nature, imploring them to make use of the resource on offer and see every conversation as an opportunity to learn and grow.

After the Headmaster’s warm welcome, a networking session commences before a sit-down meal where pupils were seated on tables with OO’s in a similar profession to their ideal future career. Between main course and dessert, pupils switched tables to ensure they had multiple conversations with people of different backgrounds, careers and interests.

Oakham School Alumni Relations Officer, Charlotte Woodward, explained “It was a lovely evening of good food, drink and conversation in the Barraclough. I would like to thank all the Old Oakhamians who attended the event, the current Oakhamians who attended found the evening insightful and greatly benefitted from the OOs sharing their knowledge, expertise, career stories and advice.”

This is an annual occasion so keep an eye out for next year’s event. Upcoming events organised by the OO Club includes the next OO Professional Industry Networking event for finance professionals in London on the 15th of November.
